Traffic Exchange Configuration

General Configuration

General configuration for the Traffic Exchange enables you to control the surfing experience for your members.

Enable Prechecker defaults to Yes, this provides a method for your members to check their sites do not break frames when entering them for insertion to the traffic exchange cycle.  If enabled they will not be able to add sites that break frames.

# of Website Displays is the number of member websites displayed before paging starts.  So for example if you allow 100 sites by setting this to 20 they will have 5 pages of websites rather than one long list.

Enable Reported Icons is a convenient way to reduce the administration of your exchange.  Adds add/edit buttons under "reported websites" for administration while surfing.

Display Frame allows you to create a frame on top of the rotator.  Use this for text ads or any kind of advertising.  Add the HTML you wish to run in templates/[your template folder]/frames/rotator.tpl and then use the...

Top Frame Hight setting to adjust the height of the frame.

Approve Websites set to Yes will email you websites information each time one is added or edited.  If you think this might be too tedious but don't want to let your members run wild see the Approve Configuration to see how you can hand this over to your members and have them welcome it.

Approve By Url set to yes means you will only need to reapprove websites if they have changed the Url.

Email Action set to Yes will send an email to the owner when an action has been taken on one of their links such as approving it.

Account Configuration

These settings effect Free Accounts and how many hits they can earn as well as what type of surfbar they use (Single/Multi button or auto surfing).  There are two entries you should pay particular attention to:-

Free Surf Ratio is used to calculate how many hits they receive, make sure the number on the left hand side is higher than the right (except for extroadinary circumstances like a crazy-more-than-you-can-eat style campaign).

Cash Per Click if you have enabled your exchange for cash payouts be extremely careful with this setting.  Make sure you only offer a fraction of a cent/penny as you will find members capable of racking up an unbelievable number of hits over night (especially if you allow some developing countries use your exchange).

Surfbar Configuration

SurfBar configuration enables you to change many aspects of how the surfbar looks and behaves.  You can choose to add links, remove links, autmate browser resizing, whether to rotate the surfbar between the top and bottom of the page, whether to show a countdown for the timer, even choose which algorithm is used for calculating the next website to be viewed.

The Ventrino Exchange has always been a leader in anti cheat code with many optional systems to protect you.  These can be configured, enabled and disabled depending on your requirements.  There's even a captcha facility available if your hosting provides GD2 and Freetype (most do).

Tools for reporting framebreakers offered by ordinary scripts are useless if they break you out of the surfbar as there's no way to know who added the page and with the use of link trackers and rotators it's impossible to know exactly what was the original link that caused the problem.  Instead Ventrino were the first to introduce code that actually detects frame breaker code and block it.

You can add an additional frame element thus providing your own advertising (or any code you choose to run).

Pro Configuration

Enable and disable the functions with regards to the Traffic Exchange and surfing for your Pro members.  If you want your pro members to receive more of the traffic you can set a percentage of how much more  in this screen.  If you leave it at 0 they receive the same as free members.  Set it to 50 and they will receive 50% more than free members.

Prize Configuration

As the name suggests you setup your prizes for surfing through this link.

Timed Url Configuration

This feature is useful for members who only want a page promoted for a particular number of days.  This may seem odd but is particularly popular with auctions where products are available only for a set time.

For traffic exchanges promoting auctions it is particularly useful to have the links deleted once they have expired as this keeps the database lean.

Quick Urls Configuration

Also popular with auctions (see Timed Url Configuration) this feature allows your members to add a list of ID's rather than cut and pasting entire links. For example your auction links may look like this:-

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=123456789
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=901234567
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=890123456
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=789012345

It makes it easier to just pasting in the three ID's (123456789,901234567,890123456,789012345).  To setup the shortcuts add [ID] as the token to be replaced in the common link, for example with eBay that would look like this:-

Quick Url Settings

Hit Purchase Configuration

Perhaps one of the more important configuration screens this is where you set your prices for traffic.
