Anything your looking for? I may have it somewhere. Ive got a bunch of cataloged programs.

Nothing in particular, just good suggestions for graphics packages. It's a regular question and my answer is to refer people to tucows.com or download.com as I'm happy with the graphics packages we already have.

I just wondered if anyone had found something useful, simple to use, potentially free or low cost that would help create good looking banners and logos (and avoid the trap of answering those daft email spam scams about logos and your company image LOL).

I use 3dtext.com and freelogos.com and also cooltext.com for making logos and buttons.
If you upload the graphics to your own space you don't have to link to them.

As long as we're reviving 3 year old threads about graphics tools...

Try the following open source tools:

Raster Graphics: GiMP and Paint.NET

Vector Graphics: Inkscape

Hiya!

I have found.. the best spot for free graphics is http://sxc.hu - lurve that place, good quality stuff and it's all free and legal to use.

Then.. now - ok - I am biased 'cause they are my biz partners and all, but Soren and John have Instant Banner Creator. It's free entry, you can do static banners and use your own images (ie from http://sxc.hu - or whatever). You can pay a monthly fee to use their graphics and make animated stuff -and... it's all drag and drop. I know, like I said - I am biased, but it's kinda a cool program wink.gif

The one that I use the most now is http://www.paint.net
It's very close to paintshop pro or photoshop and has a lot
of the same features. When I want to make my logo transparent
to replace the one on the ventrino default page I just zoom it
up and use the eraser with different sized brushes to get around
the images really well, and then save it as a gif or jpg.

You can add layers and do all kinds of neat stuff with it.
And it's free forever, not a trial.

I give a Thumbs Up to this one, Rebecca!

I use a variety of image tools including Photo Shop but
Paint.NET is really Awesome for taking any image you may
have on your PC and using the 'Magic Wand' tool for
removing any colors or backgrounds around an image and turn
it into a transparent image! It does it very well!

It is also Great for adding borders around your images as
it has a line tool that you can use, to say put a 1px or
2px border directly on an image.

I just downloaded a Free Header Maker from
www.xheader.com that also includes 500 free
headers and so far have not found any catch to it...
It even has a couple of basic video tutorials...

I really stink at making tables and am trying to put a
scrolling banner image / java script code in a header image
on one of my sites... Having a terrible time!...

Kindest Regards...

I've used cooltext.com since I was on web tv.
You can make all kinds of logos and headers with it.

Now I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS4 but for anyone who doesn't know how or
doesn't have the money for a program like that they can use cooltext and just
create their logo online and save it. You can really get creative with it by using
different templates and colors.

I use The Gimp and Inkscape. They are both free and open source. Together thay can do anything that Photoshop and Illustrator can do and won't break the bank. Plus there are tons of tutorials and examples out there for people interested in learning to use them.
